The film is full of romance, action, comedy, song and dance. Released a year before the state elections and with numerous dialogue references to the fight against tyranny and the power of the poor, this movie was instrumental in bringing MGR's political party to power in Tamil Nadu. The movie is centered on brutal King Manohar who punishes a tribal doctor (M.G.Ramachandran) and his people by selling them as slaves. When the doctor falls in love with the beautiful princess, he joins forces with a band of pirates and fights to free his enslaved kinsmen.
